Hi, I am Shannon Tunnell and I am a RYT500 Yoga Instructor. I specialize in pelvic floor yoga, vinyasa, pranayama, meditation and I also lead local yoga hikes in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
For me yoga is more than just about the physical practice (asana). It is about coming home to myself, to my roots, through pranayama (the breath), meditation and stillness. The Pelvic Floor houses 2 of the 7 main chakras, energy points in the body. The Muladhara Chakra, Root Chakra, is located in the perineum and is associated with the sense of security, comfort and grounding. The Svadhisthana Chakra, Sacral Chakra, is located at the base of the sacrum and is associated with emotions, pleasure and creativity. And then of course, the yoga hikes are one of the most effective ways to reconnect with your roots by getting out into Mother Nature herself.
I feel that my story and my training can help countless others who have experienced burn out, chronic stress and/or pelvic floor dysfunction.
Stress and urge incontinence are a nonfunctional way of living. PF Yoga can help you figure out the cause of your incontinence. Through lengthening and strengthening your PF muscles, PF Yoga can help you to stay dry!
Pain can be caused by menopause, interstitial cystitis, trauma, surgery, etc. Pain can be internal or external. PF Yoga can help you decrease your overall pain level by implementing the breath, meditation and relaxation techniques specific to your needs.
Chronic constipation, enlarged prostate or frequent urinary infections may make it difficult to eliminate completely when toileting. PF Yoga can help relax the PF to have more complete bowel/bladder emptying.
Chronically tensed muscles can lead to a chronically tight pelvic floor. This is called hypertonicity. By incorporating the breath, relaxing and lengthening the PF, you can reverse your symptoms caused by a hypertonic PF.
Trauma from Surgery or Childbirth
Trauma from childbirth resulting in a tear/episiotomy or from surgical incisions for organ removal/transitioning, can cause scar tissue to build up. This can cause issues with elimination, pain, and/or emotional trauma. PF Yoga can help you to regain control over your body.
Organ Prolapse or Hypermobility
Organ prolapse is when an organ protrudes outside of the body because the muscles lack the strength and tonicity to hold them in place. Those with hyper mobility, are ‘flexible’ but often lack the strength to safely keep their joints in place. PF Yoga can you strengthen the PF muscles to prevent injuries/prolapse.
